Tip: Here’s How to Dress Your Home to Sell
It’s
a fact that homes sell quicker and generally, for more money when dressed
for success. The question is how do you dress a home to impress. Whatever
your personal style – you must ask: what details will add up to create an
appealing impression?
Put yourself in the buyer's shoes:
- First
impressions are lasting impressions (the "curb
appeal"):
The details: clean
windows; Paint any framework, eaves troughs, window
frames, and most importantly the front and garage doors.
If your roof shows signs
of loose or bar shingles, repair or replace it. Clear
the driveway and garage of old wrecks and unwanted
clutter. Keep lawns and shrubbery pruned. Add a couple of sparkling features such as a
brass doorknocker and mailbox, a wrought-iron lamp post,
or a large, potted,
flowering plant on the porch.
- What
message does your home give to some stepping through the front door?:
The details: A
fresh
atmosphere (no pet smells, cigarette smoke or unpleasant cooking
odors);
well-lit hallways; bright, sparkling clean rooms, especially
the kitchen and bathrooms; spotlessly-clean floors; freshly
painted walls and woodwork.
You may
not consider it's worth your investment to repair or
refurbish to help your home sell but many other sellers
will. Remember, your home will be in competition with many
other homes on the market. The home that shows the best and
is priced right wins. Click
